Bruce Hurn

Bruce Hurn (1926-2020) was best known for landscapes mainly in oil and later in acrylic.  Born in Spalding, Lincolnshire, he was art teacher and art inspector. 

Hurn completed his qualification in 1946 at Birmingham College of Art. He then became a tutor at Nuneaton School of Art, moving to King Edward’s School in Birmingham where, from 1947-1973, he was director of art and design. He also headed the Moseley Branch School of Art until 1973.

In 1973 he was appointed HM Inspector of Schools for Art, a role he held until 1986 latterly from a new home in Chislehurst, Kent.

Hurn was a regular exhibitor at the RBSA (Royal Birmingham Society of Artists), of which he was President 1973/74, he later donated three of his works to the society.

Other exhibitions were at the Herbert Art Gallery in Coventry and at the Compendium Gallery in Birmingham.

In 1979 two works were accepted for exhibition in Royal Academy.
